Timi Frank’s Accusation Against Opposition Lawmakers in National Assembly is Misleading.
The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has described as misleading a statement credited to the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress APC Comrade Timi Frank, accusing the opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly of being indifferent and silent in the ongoing investigations into allegations of corruption against top government officials in Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government.
This is contained in a statement signed by the special adviser legal to the minority leader Barrister Oyomira Idahosa and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
According to the statement such accusations remain unfortunate, misleading, and undeserving given the efforts of the caucus in exposing corruption and holding this administration accountable.
It further noted that the Opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly had never compromised or shied away from their legislative duties at any time, even at the risk of their lives.
While appreciating the concerns, raised by Comrade Timi Frank the opposition lawmakers said the allegations were borne out of miscomprehension of their efforts in exposing corruption adding that it had never dropped any motion for corruption investigation on any individual as wrongly alleged.
The caucus also said the allegation that a motion which was officially slated to be taken before the National assembly annual recess was stepped down due to external as the normal procedures, processes and scheduling of legislative activities was followed.
The statement pointed out that the Minority caucus has been at the center of unearthing and exposing acts of corruption in this administration adding that it will never relent in its efforts in fighting corruption.
“The Minority Caucus has been extensively vocal on the floor in the fight against corruption as well as in holding government accountable in all sectors of our national life.
The roles of opposition members in the National Assembly in unearthing corruption as well as investigating of indicted persons are in the public domain.
However, it is imperative to state that in this task, guiding legislative procedures and processes, which reinforce the achieving of expected results, are followed.”
The opposition lawmakers who reiterated their awareness of the confidence reposed on them by Nigerians at this critical time in the nation’s said they would never relent in holding government accountable in the interest of Nigerians.
The Minority Caucus further assured Nigerians that it is fully on course and will never compromise its stance against corruption and in exposing all corrupt persons, no matter how highly placed.
