Senate Committee on INEC presents the report on Electoral Act Amendment Bill
The Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally presented its report on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill for consideration.
Chairman of the Committee, Sen.Kabiru Gaya (APC-Kano) presented the report on Wednesday’s plenary.
President of Senate, Ahmad Lawan, in his remark said the leadership of the National Assembly did not temper with the report of the committee as been speculated in some quarters.
“There are various insinuations, that the leadership of National Assembly had tempered with the report of the committee of INEC of both chambers.
“Some of those accusing the leadership of National Assembly are misinformed innocently, some are simply mischievous, this is the first time, this report is laid here and this is the report of the committee.
“This is the decision of the committee on INEC and whatever that will be discussed or considered electoral act amendment, will be on the basis of what has been presented to the senate.
“So if anybody feels very strongly about anything, lobby distinguished senators, to canvass for your position, rather than blackmail the leadership, by saying that it had manipulated the report,” Lawan said.
He said the senate would do what was right in ensuring the emergence of a credible Electoral Act Amendment Bill. (NAN)
