A bill for a law to provide for the prompt monthly release of funds credited to the state Judiciary from the state consolidated funds has passed first reading on the floor of the Kogi State House of Assembly.


This followed a correspondence sent to the assembly by the state judiciary and read by the Speaker, Prince Mathew Kolawole at plenary.

He said the bill seeks to ensure transparency, and accountability in the judicial system.

Prince Kolawole while committing the bill to the house committee on judiciary and justice said it would assist the judiciary carryout its fiscal responsibility.

Similarly the house also adopted two reports.

They are house report on the committee on education, science and technology’s oversight visit to some higher institutions of learning in kogi state chaired by Kilani Olusola Olumo and the report of the ad-hoc committee on legislative agenda for the seventh assembly chaired by Ahmed Muhammed.

The Speaker in his ruling said that the debate for both reports would be taken on another legislative date.

Meanwhile the Speaker, Prince Mathew Kolawole has officially announced the death of the member representing Ibaji state constituency, John Abah who died last month.

He described him as a dependable ally and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.

The speaker also paid tribute to the late chief judge of the state, Justice Nasir Ajanah and the late father of the House Leader, Hassan Abdullahi Balogun.

A minute silent was observed for all of them at the end of the plenary.
